Most
people would agree that no one should have to starve
to death in a world where there is more than enough
food for everyone to eat.
In fact, when the leaders of the world met at the United
Nations at the Millennium Summit in the year 2000, they
agreed to commit themselves to accomplish eight 'Millennium
Development Goals' by the year 2015. The first of those
goals is to reduce in half the number of people in extreme
poverty without the food they need to live healthy lives.
Many of the diverse movements for change that make up
the vast 'better world movement' have embraced the Millennium
Development Goals as tangible achievements to strive
towards, and a specific promise and agenda we can insist
that our leaders honor.
Is our nation living up to its promise of working to
eliminate hunger? As a united better world community,
we can convince our leaders that we must honor that
promise to end hunger!
